Prep Cook - Barnyard Cafe

Job description
Come and join our busy kitchen team, where we serve made-to-order hand-produced food, using ingredients from the farm shop next door.

We are looking for a cook who is good at working under pressure and can turn their hand to preparing food, working the pass or clearing the washing. The Barnyard Café is looking for a team player, who will enjoy working with our small, dedicated team.

We serve a full range of meals for breakfast, and our lunch offering includes soups, sandwiches, salads and sausage rolls. All freshly made to order.

The position is ideally for 37.5 hours a week, working Tuesday to Saturday (although we will consider part time applicants too). The cafe is closed on Sundays and Mondays. You will be working alongside our Kitchen supervisor and another cook in our small but effective kitchen. No evening working is required.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Assist in meal preparation and cooking under the supervision of the kitchen supervisor
  • Follow recipes and portion control guidelines to ensure consistent quality
  • Prepare ingredients by washing, chopping, and measuring as directed
  • Assist with food storage and inventory management
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area
  • Adhere to all food safety and cleanliness standards (HACCP and COSHH)
  • Collaborate with other kitchen staff to ensure smooth operations
  • Organising the tickets to ensure efficient and timely service
  • Opening the kitchen and getting it ready for the day
  • Cleaning down the kitchen and the end of the day and closing
  • Maintain the high standards that we have set ourselves as a business in all aspects
  • Shopping in the Farm Shop to gather what the kitchen needs for the day
  • Ability to communicate with customers and engage them in conversation if required
  • To develop knowledge of our products and help innovate and add new items to the menu

Skills required:

  • Basic food hygiene certificate/training desirable, but not required
  • Initiative

Experience:

Minimum of 1 year in a kitchen environment, actively preparing meals

Job Types: Full-time (ideally) and part time, Permanent

Salary: From £12.34 per hour

Expected hours: 37.5 per week
